Wish Me Luck...

...because I'm getting married this weekend!!! I can't believe it's really happening so soon. The last 8 months have flown by, especially this last month since we had to cram much of the work into the last 4 weeks (since we were living out of the country until then).

Blood, sweat and tears have gone into the planning along with lots of laughter, love and imagination. I am so excited for everyone to see what we've been working on so hard for so long.

Family has already begun to arrive with many more friends and relatives arriving over the next two days...I still feel like there are some loose ends to tie up but other than that, we're good to go!

I can't wait to share all of the details with you post-wedding. I've been so tempted to share them throughout the planning process but I wanted to keep many things as a surprise. You'll definitely be seeing and hearing about everything soon :)

So, it's goodbye for now as I get back to last minute preparations...I hope to have time to update you next week on how things went this weekend. Wish us luck!!

  <p>Warning: spoiler alert! As you may recall, I told you way back in December that I'd be letting my girls <a href="/engaged-inspired/2011/12/29/mismatched-maids">pick their own</a> bridesmaids dresses.  I honestly thought it would be really easy for them to find a dress since I gave such a wide range of options but only half of the girls have found one and we're just over 2 weeks away from the wedding.  EEK!  However, the half that <span style="text-decoration: underline">have</span> found dresses are ah-ma-zing.  Take a look below to see how they all look together.  I'm in love!  Each one really fits the individual style of the girl wearing it and yet they somehow all work together.

<p>I've given the 3 remaining girls until this Saturday to find a dress and send me a pic and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they find.  It was especially important to give them a deadline as I am not planning on having them carry bouquets during the wedding and the accessories I've already purchased for them should somehow look cohesive.  If after the other 3 have bought their dresses and I realize my original idea doesn't work out, I will have to scramble for a Plan B!</p>

  <p>If you've been keeping up with my planning, you already know that my bridesmaids will be wearing <a href="/engaged-inspired/2011/12/29/mismatched-maids">mismatched</a> dresses.  Well, we've decided to go down that path with the groomsmen as well.  The decision came about more out of necessity rather than desire because all 4 groomsmen will be traveling to the wedding (2 from Austria, 1 from Illinois and 1 from California) so it was impossible to get them all together to try on suits.  The rental options for our desired color (grey) were slim to none and we did not want to pick out a suit that each guy "had" to buy since they're already paying for travel related expenses.
We tossed around the idea of having all groomsmen wear black since they all had their own black suits and then hubby-to-be would wear a grey suit.  We imagined it looking something like this:</p>

<p>However, I wasn't really sold on this idea because I didn't think black suits would look as nice with the bridesmaids in their blush/nude/softer colored dresses.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">We then decided to just ask the guys if they already own a medium grey suit- luckily, two already did and two had no problem finding one to buy (and for less than a rental, score!).  They're not all the same color but hopefully they will all compliment each other.  I don't think they'll vary as much as the colors below but even if they do, I think we'll be okay since these guys look fabulous, right?!</p>

<p>Is anyone else doing mismatched suits for the guys?  Any tips that we should follow in order to keep the look cohesive despite the different suits?</p>

  <p>Hello everyone!  Yes, I'm alive...sorry for being MIA but it has been a crazy couple of weeks on this end.  My fiance and I flew from Austria to Illinois on February 20th, spent a few days with my family and then started the 3 day drive to Arizona.  We were promised by our contractor that the renovations to the home we bought in October were finished but had the extremely unpleasant surprise of arriving to a disaster zone.  We spent a few nights in a hotel, then a few nights on an air mattress in what was supposed to be the living room of our house, almost an entire week fighting with the contractor to finish what we paid him to do and also dealt with some lovely surprises with the home (ex: the sewer backed up into the shower drains and the AC unit broke the second day we slept in the house)...just to name a few things that went wrong.  Needless to say, I had zero time to think about the wedding during the last couple of weeks which stressed me out even more.
However, I am happy to report that things are finally starting to settle down and I am slowly switching back to wedding mode.  My grandmother gave me some wonderful advice that really put things into perspective.  She said "Christina, you'll always have a house to deal with but you will only have one wedding!"  She's totally right and with only a month to go, I am glad she was able to snap me out of my funk.</p>
<p>I had my first dress fitting last week and that it went great!  My worries about not liking the dress vanished as soon as I put it on.  The fit was almost perfect and the dress doesn't even need to be hemmed!</p>
<p>I also had a 2nd hair trial before the fitting that went well but I'm not sure if it's the look I'll end up choosing.</p>
<p>If you remember, the hairstyle I chose for my 1st trial was this:

<p>I liked the look in person but I am not sure if I will love the way it looks in pictures.  So, I plan on styling my hair like this before my next dress fitting and hopefully I'll finally be able to make a decision!</p>

  <p>I can't wait any longer...here is a sneak peak at our invites! We're still waiting to receive a few RSVPs and after that I will be able to show you the real deal. Let me tell you, I am in LOVE with them.

  <p>Christian and I just celebrated our 6 month "engaged-iversary" on Monday, so I thought it would be a great time to share how the wedding planning all began: <strong>the ah-ma-zing proposal</strong>!
Are you ready for an incredible story? Before I can dive right in, I have to tell you about the amazing details leading up to it.  Christian had planned that he wanted to propose sometime during our trip back to the US last August.  He consulted with my sister and decided to film a video of himself asking my parents if he could marry me.  He sent the video to my sister with strict instructions not to show it to my parents until they were both together.  To make things even more exciting, he sent flowers to my parents with just a card saying "Dear M. and T.- Please check with A. for more information."  They didn't know who the flowers were from and had to wait until they were both together before my sister sat them in front of the computer and played the video for them.  Per Christian's request, she also filmed the whole thing so that we could watch their reactions later on :)</p>
<p><strong>Now for the proposal</strong>:  We were visiting my family in Illinois and after breakfast on Friday morning, Christian casually mentioned that I needed to hurry up and pack because we were going to Vegas. I was like “Excuse me?!” He started smiling and would only tell me that we were heading to Vegas in a few hours…he wouldn't tell me for how many days or what we’d be doing.  He just assured me (and my family, hehe) that we would NOT be driving through any little chapels.  My sister came in to see what was going on but I quickly found out that she was in on the whole thing...I begged her to tell me what was happening but she wouldn't crack!</p>
<p>We got to Vegas around 9pm and checked in to our hotel- it was our lucky night because they were almost booked out so they gave us a courtesy upgrade to an 800 sq ft suite! We took advantage of living in luxury and ordered room service for dinner.  He told me I had to be up at 6:30am the next day so we went to sleep early.  As I was getting ready in the morning, he came in with some papers for me to sign but he wouldn't let me see what they were for.</p>
<p>After some begging and pleading on my part, he finally told me:  We were going on a <a href="http://gozerog.com/">Zero G flight</a>!  The flight takes you up in the air to experience zero gravity…it is AMAZING.  There are about 15 “runs” of about 30-40 seconds of weightlessness each…on the last run, Christian said we should make sure that we float in front of a video camera…we floated on over and then he took out the ring and a little sign saying “Will you marry me?”  The ring literally floated in front of my face...it was so magical!  At the exact moment that he proposed, someone threw engagement confetti into the air (this turned out to be a total coincidence…we found out later that a guy knew he wanted to throw confetti because it would look great floating around and an engagement theme was all he could find).  It was truly spectacular!</p>
<p>The surprises weren't over yet though...after we got back to the hotel, we headed straight back to the airport because Christian had booked flights to Phoenix so that we could surprise my friends and celebrate with them!  He’d coordinated with one of my friends to gather everyone for dinner but all he told her was that it was just a random surprise for me…they knew nothing about the engagement so it was really fun to be able to tell the story (and show off the gorgeous ring, of course).  I am so happy and feel so blessed to have such a thoughtful person by my side for life.</p>

  <p>Bachelorette party #1* was last weekend and it was incredible. I'm still laughing when I think back to all of the shenanigans that occurred that night.  My soon-to-be sister, Karin, organized the party with my Vienna crew and she did an amazing job, especially considering that we're in Austria and the types of parties we're used to in the US are not the norm here.

<p>One of my favorite things that I was gifted has to be this black ''Bride to Be'' champagne flute. It is so sparkly in person and I'm not ashamed to admit that I used it to drink a glass of wine the other night just because ;) My other favorite item from the party has to be the ''Here Comes the Bride'' canvas tote. Again, Karin had such a cute idea and had all of the guests write a message and sign the bag for me. I love it!</p>
