{E&I Work} Crafty Library Inspired Baby Shower

After tossing around a few ideas for this shower, Yasmin of Floral Theory and I landed on what you can see here. The amazing invitations were done by Aerialist Press, truly a talented duo.

From there I began crafting like crazy on the details to make sure the details were fabulous and fitting for such a fun event celebrating Erin's amazing little man. I'll try to post some DIY tutorials soon! The crowns were the most fun little DIY I did for this. There are so so many people to thank for contributing to this. From the food, to desserts and even the venue were a labor of love. We are lucky to know so many great and talented individuals up here.

Super excited that this baby shower was featured on Onto Baby!

now for the details {table settings}

159 days and counting until I become Mrs. DiCarlo. Now that I have surpassed the 6 month mark, it feels like time is just flying by! Surprisingly, I am very relaxed. I have been extremely organized in my planning thus far, and just last week I checked off some BIG items.

  • Bridesmaids dresses- check!
  • DJ- check!
  • Officiant- check!
  • Videographer & photographer- double check!

The next meeting I have with my wedding planner will be with the florist, then the bakery to do some cake tasting!

If you've been following me along on this journey, my love for succulents is hard to ignore. My biggest challenge now is incorporating the flowers I love into a table setting that is affordable and reflects my style. I'm envisioning something simple, elegant, and a bit mid-century chic. Here are some images that have inspired me so far:

What's your table style? Simple & chic, grand elegance, or perhaps somewhere in between? Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas!

pretty & personal {signs}

Having gone to a lot of weddings in recent years, there is one thing that always sticks out to me... the personal details! And one of the most adorable and tasteful way you can get personal with your wedding is by using signs! I happen to like a more vintage/DIY look when it comes to pretty & personal signs. Check out some of my inspiration!

My favorites signs were hand crafted by my friend Jessica Haro at her gorgeous Sonoma wedding last year. (I've given her many a shout out on this blog, because, well, she's pretty fabulous at designing a wedding.) I loved walking up to the ceremony site and reading these heart-felt signs on the way... it made me feel so connected to how excited she and Mike were to say "I do!"

Here are some other sign ideas that I may use- with my yellow & grey mid-century motif, of course!

Will you be adding signs to your wedding decor? If so, what's your style? What are you envisioning? Any tips on how to easily create something ala DIY? Please share!!

Oh, and a side note: as far as my planning goes, I got A LOT accomplished this weekend! DJ & officiant- CHECK!!!

See you next Tuesday :)

Inspired by Neon Pink Accents

Source: Let's Party, Dessert Table

 Pink is a hard color for me. I know how much I love it, but at the same time, isn't that typical? I was actually scared to add any pink into my wedding because I didn't want it to read too girlie. With the current trends of neon coming back into style, I just can't help it anymore. I'm dying over basically everything neon, pink being at the top of that list.

Favor DIY alert right here. These cute kraft-paper chocolate bars are super easy, check them out right here. This right next to this fab Kate Spade bud vase (which I literally can't find anywhere).

For me, I have been drawn to white and nude tones for so long, that it is a nice change of pace to go bold and go strong with color. How about you? Are you still drawn to nude tones or are you excited to break out with bold colors?

Location, Location, Location :: Venue Search

You've heard it before - 'location, location, location' - and while it usually refers to real estate properties, I think it's also applicable to wedding venues. In searching for where we want to have our wedding, we were quickly faced with thinking not only about where the actual ceremony and reception would take place, but also where our guests would be spending a weekend. As I mentioned before, Chris and I have many friends in Oregon and my family is there, but we have lived in San Francisco for the past five years and his family is in California, so we have a community here too. Over our wedding weekend some of these people will be meeting for the first time, so it's really important to us that everyone get to know each other and have plenty of opportunities to hang out. As we come together in this union of marriage, we want our friends and family to come together as well (sounds corny, but it's true!). When thinking about this, we realized that if people just came from their house to our wedding and then went back home, it wouldn't have the effect we wanted. So, we decided, what better way for everyone to get to know each other than to be thrown into a small town over the course of a couple days?! Hence, our decision to narrow our search. We think the perfect place for what we have in mind is the Gorge/Hood River/Mount Hood area because it will be a 'destination' for almost everyone. At the same time, it's only an hour drive from the Portland and PDX airport, so it's not crazy remote for anyone either.

After we made the decision on this general location, the search has gotten easier and I'm beginning to actually picture what everything will look like. The main things we want in a venue are for it to be outdoor (although an indoor backup plan in case of rain would be a huge plus), some views would be nice, for it to fit our style - outdoor chic/whimsical - and to have a great dance area! Here are some of the images inspiring me and that I hope to find parts of this weekend on our visit. I know part of it will be being able to envision what we could turn a space into with some creativity.

I'm loving each of these venues for different reasons. I can't wait to see them in-person in a couple days. And it doesn't hurt that the forecast is showing 81 and sunny on Saturday so it will feel like summer!

Bear with me on one more real estate comparison...blame it on me living in several 'for sale' houses growing up (and countless HGTV shows in the past few years). If you remember last week when I talked about the difficulty seeing a venue through their website, I mentioned that I was sick of seeing countless close-up images of people's weddings - from their centerpieces to their rings on a grape vine, etc. I'm not trying to sound insensitive, it's just that that's not what us brides are looking for we search online for a venue (we want to see that when we are looking for a photographer or for DIY projects). The principle already applies in real estate - when you are trying to sell your house, you want to stage it in a way that other people can picture themselves living there, but at the same time, don't picture your family living there. So, you take down personal touches - family pictures, your moisturizer and toothbrushes from the bathroom counter and so on and you 'stage' it so that they think 'oh that little side room would make the perfect library/office!' I think wedding venue websites would benefit from a similar mindset. Instead of treating their sites like wedding blogs with pictures of all the details, they could find a way to balance couples being able to let their imaginations run wild with the space (staging), while removing the personalized elements of other weddings (family pictures on the wall). Any out-of-state brides out there? What do you think - are you running into this issue?

Follow up to my first week: If you were patient enough to read through this post, below is a picture of my finished ring!!! My first post two weeks ago was about the ring my fiance proposed to me with (his grandmother's beautiful ring) and how we went to design the 'engagement' ring that day together. Well, he got down on his knee again last night with the ring we designed in-hand (actually in-pocket) for me to see for the first time and it seriously exceeded all my expectations. For some reason I'm not super comfortable posting pictures of my ring for all to see, which is why I hid it all the way down here. Perhaps it's because I don't want to come across as superficial or giving the impression that the loveliness of a ring has anything to do with what truly matters about a couple, because it doesn't...but I do truly love this ring and the guy who gave it to me and I'm not ashamed of either of those things.  ;-)

props to our amazing jeweler!

Tea Party Bridal Shower

There are so many fabulous details in this tea party-themed bridal shower. Seriously, so many fabulous little details! The concept is a vintage yet modern theme for the girls to celebrate in true bridal fashion with her closest friends  before her big day. From vintage table settings to pearls mixed with some fabulous florals spread about. And the menu, filled with tea blends, yummy treats and of course, scones, makes for the perfect menu for a tea party!

A Simple Ceremony::Outdoor Decor

Sorry I've been gone for a few weeks, it turns out that planning a wedding and having a full-time job (like almost all of us do) sometimes can be a little overwhelming. But now I'm back and less than three months from my big day! Holy cow! I like saying less than three instead of a little over two (whenever I hear two, it makes me anxious). So, besides having an overwhelming amount of this to do (even though up until now, I've felt as if my planning was flawless), I am still constantly gathering new inspiration, which is absolutely KILLER if you are actually trying to make decisions. From all of the gobs of beautiful things I've seen, here's my plan for the ceremony. My ceremony will be outside my parents home under a lovely tree. I'll enter through our front door to rows of natural wood chairs and make a winding path around to the end of the aisle and all the way up to meet JB. I've always been in to a clean, somewhat industrial, earthy aesthetic (that makes sense, right), which I plan to carry through the ceremony. We won't have an altar, or really anything other than the tree up by where we'll stand, however, to make things festive, there are a few things that I've decided to add to the decor (only a few), so here's my guide for festive-ing up your ceremony.

1. Find something unique but simple that you can use again. My mom has always taught me two things about shopping: 1. buy for the long-haul 2. don't buy small stuff (she's not in to chotchkies).  So heeding her advice (I've been making staple housewares purchases for years) and with her help, we found 5 beautiful round metal candle pieces that will hang in the tree behind us. One more piece of mom advice for making things look perfectly undone and chic, choose odd numbers, specifically 3 or 5.

2. Add something living. For me that's easy, the tree. However, at the end of the aisle I will also have a few (probably 3) pots or holders of some sort with living plants and I'll have a eucalyptus garland around the front door.

one, two, three

3. Keep it simple and stay true to yourself. This is what I've been struggling with! There are so many ideas that are beautifully executed to choose from that it is absolutely overwhelming, however, what I've been trying to remember to help decide what I do and don't want is: would I pick this any day, or just today? Think about you and your lovey's true style, what do you two like and go from there. For me and JB, it's simple, we don't like clutter or anything too girly. However I've been on the edge of buying and cutting pink ribbons for a ribbon curtain on multiple occasions. Here are a few more things that have almost made me drop all plans and start fresh.

Can you imagine a root beer themed wedding?! The BEST!

Are y'all having trouble making decisions? How are you decorating your ceremony?

New Crafty Obsession {Washi Tape}

I’m in trouble. The research I was doing for this week’s blog post has lead to a serious new obsession: washi tape!

Source

I’ve seen it on craft sites and thought it would be fun to get some ideas of how brides are incorporating the decorative tape in to their wedding designs. I had no idea the search would uncover such gorgeous ideas! Washi tape is simple, colorful, fun and relatively inexpensive. And just a small piece of tape instantly adds a designer touch.

There are so many places to add it around your wedding day. Favors, table numbers, escort cards and bunting can all be jazzed up with washi tape.

I love how it looks on printed materials too. This black and white invitations is so sophisticated!

And if you still can’t get enough, washi tape even works in home décor. How incredible is this keyboard?

I’m off to stock up on a myriad of patterns and colors. Anyone have any good washi tape resources?

Blowing In The Wind {Ribbon Decor}

Somewhat unintentionally, a theme has emerged in some of my decorative ideas: Ribbons. And I have to say, I’m okay with this! I’ve always loved the look of ribbons on the back of the chairs, but I’m starting to think about incorporating ribbons throughout the wedding. I love the way they blow in the wind and create such a whimsical feeling. They kind of remind me of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Ribbons (or paper or fabric streamers) can provide a great backdrop for a space. I’m also thinking about using them to divide up and define some of the spaces at our venue, all while not obstructing the amazing views.

I am in love with this ribbon chandelier! If not for our wedding, maybe for our house....

I also love the ribbon wands as an alternative to flowers for the flower girl. So cute!

I started a little ribbon shopping this weekend; here are some initial favorites. I’m thinking that I can buy some of the fancier (and more expensive) ribbon in small quantities and mix it in with less expensive craft ribbon.

Do you have a good resource for reasonable ribbon, fabric or other craft supplies? I’d love to check it out!

Should'a, Could'a, Would'a :: Stripes

I swear, I look at weddings now and just think, "I really should have gone with my gut on that one!" Stripes is a perfect example. I had all the ideas lined up, but just like those games you play when you are little where you find the thing that doesn't belong, stripes was the odd man out in my equation. It just didn't work. But looking back, it could have worked, and I should have fought myself a little harder, gotten a little further out of my confort zone and looked a little more at HOW it could have worked. These are the little tidbits when you have your 20/20 vision looking behind. I knew I loved the look, and it is something I should have investigated a little more. Even though you don't see tons of photos of something doesn't mean it doesn't work, and if you just spread a little creativity, you might discover some awesome ideas in the back of your mind that lead to an incredibly good looking piece of decor.

Oh well, there are tons of other places to use stripes, right? My closet is inundated with them, and every wall in my house has the potential to become them. And I just love it.

These stripes stole my heart this time around, what is stealing your heart at the moment?
