Thinking Beyond the Cake

February 13, 2013

Happy almost Valentine’s Day!

I can’t stop thinking about sweets this week. There are so many cute and creative ways to tie your favorite confections into your wedding day. From the get-go my fiance and I liked the idea of doing something different from the traditional wedding cake.

Milk and cookies. Yum.

I love what this couple did – instead of having a wedding cake, they had a wedding cake-shaped piƱata and then did a french croquembouche for dessert – that translates to ‘crunch in the mouth’!

Macaroons are adorable and come in endless colors and flavors.

Donuts – always a crowd-pleaser.

And you can’t go wrong with ice cream. I’m actually eating some raspberry sorbet as I type this right now :-)

Did you decide to forgo the wedding cake? What are you going to do instead?

In my future one day wedding I want a small cake and then cupcakes w/ mini macrons on them!! Maybe one day!

I love the ice cream truck idea!! That would be so amazingly cool! =)

@Chloe Moon – The only thing cuter than macaroons would be mini macaroons. What an awesome idea!

  3. Ah, I love all of these, but for some reason I just really want a cake. I prefer the taste and look of it to cupcakes. But also love when people do mini pies or various other fun (i.e. cute/delicious) things. A friend did a dessert bar of all kinds of desserts, which looked really pretty. Can’t wait to hear what you decide on!

@Lauren @ Sassy Molassy, I’ll let you know what I do! I totally understand wanting to have a cake. It’s classic and there are equally endless fun options with flavors and style. I went cake tasting with my friend for her wedding and it was amazing. You should make sure to go to a couple of those :-)
