China, Crystal & Silver, Oh My!

February 22, 2012

This weekend, I (finally convinced Dan to go with me and get us) registered!  It was a bit stressful admittedly, but we ultimately ended up having some fun!

We started with china and crystal, which was definitely an education. Did you know that good china should be slightly translucent (you should be able to see the shadow of your hand when you hold it up to the light)? It is also really strong so don’t get too nervous about pulling out that back dinner plate (the sales woman at Macy’s startled us by smashing the dishes together!) Who knew?!

We are probably going to go with something pretty simple and classic to be sure that our china goes with anything and lasts through the years, but I can’t help but drool over these antique-styled and more ornate designs. They are great inspiration for for you wedding dinnerware too.

We are also going to be registering for classic, causal, everyday pieces at Pottery Barn. You really can’t go wrong with white dinnerware or towels.

And when it comes to home décor, I adore West Elm and Anthropologie. Unfortunately, West Elm doesn’t offer registry and Anthropologie only has a “wish list.” Has anyone out there done a wish list as a registry? We might just let guests know that we like these stores as an option for gift cards or making their own selections. I’d love any thought or experiences on this one!

Any other registry tips are welcome!

registering is so fun! we didn’t register for china, but to my surprise my fiancee’s stepgrandmom (his mom’s dad’s second wife) gave us her china, it’s super pretty, so that was exciting.

i am obsessed with west elm and anthro too…i strongly considered doing one of those myregistry.com sites where you can register on any site…but i got scared it seemed spammy, like a site that would give viruses! but it’s a good theory for sites that don’t offer registry! p.s. i strongly considered writing to west elm about it, i mean come on – they own pottery barn/william sonoma, why leave west elm out of the registry world?!

Hi Kate! I had looked at one of those my registry.com things too but I couldn’t tell if it was free or if you paid or if your guests did. I figured just letting guests know about those stores was good enough :) And yes we totally should write West Elm! I used to work at Pottery Barn in college and registry was big business. You’d think they could just implement the same thing in the West Elm stores or even just online. Where did you end up registering?

I attempted myregistry.com and it seemed free, but I still didn’t trust it! :) We went with Target, Macy’s, and Pottery Barn…

I was really disappointed with Target’s registry – their online functionality was really crappy. When I started my registry the apostrophe in my last name was fine, no issue searching for me. But they switched site platforms, and it no longer handled the apostrophe…their customer service was less than helpful. (I love Target in person, but this was just an annoying registry issue!) Macy’s was fabulous though – and Pottery Barn too!

Hi! My name is Dana and I just recently started following your blog! I really enjoy reading it! I noticed that you’re not sure what to do for your registry. You can use Amazon.com’s registry. How it works is that you can add a button to your internet browser (much like Pinterest) and then on any website you can add items to your registry! It is amazing! I’m just nervous because it opens up so many different choices, how will I ever decide what to include on my registry! If you’d like to go over to my blog, http://bridewithatwist.blogspot.com/2012/02/defining-yourself-where-do-you-register.html it explains how to use the amazon registry. It also lists out a couple other cool options! Or, if you just want to head to amazon.com it is really easy to use! Hope this helps! Happy registering!

I used myregistry.com and I can vouch that it is free and amazing and SOOO easy to use! You can pull stuff from ANY website and they even have a button like on Pinterest that if you want to add something you just click a button on your browser and you are all set! Basically half the stuff I registered for is from Anthroplogie and so far I have received everything just like a normal gift registry. Everyone should use this! I swear!
