Favors, Yay or Nay?

I’m so torn on what we should do for wedding favors, or if we should have them at all. On one hand it’s always fun to get them at a wedding- especially edible favors! On the hand, does anyone really notice if they are missing? Or, would it be better to do a charitable donation rather than spend money on a favor? A few ideas we have had are succulents (in keeping with our rustic theme), coffee in small burlap bags (from the amazing coffee shop we went to in Savannah the day after we got engaged, points for being sentimental?), or DIY s’mores bags (because who doesn’t love s’mores!).
Plus it would be a shame to waste these adorable tags I bought! :)
Future or past brides, help me out! What have you done, or what are you doing for your wedding?

I’d go with the s’mores but I might be a little bit biased :)

I love the succulents idea which if you have them in lots of little pots you could put candles in the center and so they would originally be part of your centerpiece then guess would take them at the end of the night. It’s basically a two of one and saves on the budget.

Ugh, I’m having the same dilemma! There are so many cute options! I personally like the succulents because I love succulents, but I like the coffee because you get to tell part of your story with it…I think we’re going to do a donation in lieu of favors. I keep seeing precious programs, favors and menus but am trying to keep from having lots of things that will simply be thrown away at the end of the night. I don’t know though, toughie!

We did a photobooth for our favours. It included a logo design (our names & wedding date reflecting our invites) in one of the squares and then 3 other squares for the photos they took. They got a print out right away and then 10 days later all of the photos were online for people to see and download. We (bride & groom) were also given a USB stick with all of the photos on them. There was a lineup throughout the entire night and everyone loved the idea of the props and take-homes. I still see the photos on everyone’s fridges when we go visit. :D

I love edible favors – they are the most useful :). So I vote coffee or smores! So cute!

@krista: we are doing a photobooth, but it’s an old school, squeeze the tube and it takes your picture..the photos will be available online later for us to post on facebook, but unfortunately not right then and there for a favor (darn!)
so 2 votes for succulents, 2 votes for s’mores …keep the votes coming! :)

I LOVE those little tags! I did a s’more bar because we had a bonfire at the venue. It wasn’t the favor but it was a lot of fun. I think the s’mores are cute, but I think the succulent would be far more useful for guests. PLUS, if there are extras (and believe me, there are ALWAYS lefties) you can display them in your home instead of having to throw out or eat a bunch of s’mores :)
just my two cents!

@Allison: Aren’t they the cutest? I love that whole etsy shop! And you do make a good point – I wouldn’t complain if I had a bunch of succulents leftover!

I’m having the same dilemma! I had my heart set on succulents, but in thinking about it, we have a lot of guests coming in from out of town. I just don’t know how they are going to get those babies home on a plane. And I certainly don’t want to see a bunch of succulents in the trash! The closer the wedding gets, the farther down the list the favors go. With a tight budget, and already a ton of DIY projects, I feel like the favors are losing their importance for me. :/

I LOVE the tags! If I had to choose, I’d vote for the coffee or succulents.
I’ve also been debating on the favors…we are having a photobooth with instant prints too and we can customize the logo/design so I thought about saying “thank you” on those…buuuuut I also have a fun, edible idea too and dont really want to skip it (even though it’d save me like $300-$400). Hmm, decisions, decisions!
Let us know what you decide :)

My hubby and I struggled with the same dilemma! In the end we decided to send our guests home with a late night snack that was really “us” (puppy chow – something we make and DEVOUR everytime friends come over to our place!) Be sure to consider where your guests are coming from – for us we had a ton of out-of-towners so something like a succulent wouldn’t have been ideal since they had to get on a plane the next day.
