First Comes the Dress, Then Comes the Accessories

May 15, 2012

My dress has arrived (yay!!!!!) and scheduling my first fitting is towards to the top of my to-do list. And while I can’t wait to see how it looks fitted just right, knowing the dress is here also gets my fantasizing about (and shopping for) accessories!

The dress is gorgeous on its own, but one of the things I loved about it as that it is simple enough to accessorize and really make it my own.

First, I need some lovely jewelry. I’m thinking simple earrings, a bare neck and stacked bracelets.

For the bracelets, this is certainly a fun trend to take advantage of in my bridal look. To make it a bit more special, I’m going to mix my own bracelets with borrowed bracelets from the important women in my life. I love this for my something borrowed and I think it will look really chic.

What would a bridal look be without some fab-u-lous shoes. I’m going bold here. There’s nothing like some fantastic shoes to make a girl feel really special.

Lastly, my dress needs a sash. I want organza flowers in ivory…but these peach flowers really caught my eye as well! What do you think of a little color on the sash?

Any favorites? Any good places to shop for bridal accessories? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Love the rose earrings from Anthro and your idea on the bracelets. I can’t wait to see your look come together.

Also, as far as where to buy, I would check out Etsy.com. Not only will you find a wide variety of options, but you will support someone’s small business! They also have a section strictly for vintage if that’s your thing.

Pinterest is a great source of inspiration for veils and hair accessories. Once you have an idea of what you like, I’d highly recommend going to a designer nearby where you live for a personal consultation and fitting. I’ve had last minute brides in tears because the accessory they ordered from overseas did not arrive or did not fit properly. We especially have this problem in South Africa where I’m based. It’s also a wonderful experience to have something created especially for you where you can play a role in the design process.

Bridal sashes are gorgeous, I’d recommended creating something similar to the decor on your sash to pin into your hair at the back.

Ashley, I ADORE Etsy. I will definitely be shopping there–a couple of the sashes are from Etsy. I’m a huge fan :)

Claire, great advice on shipping. I definitely want to avoid the panic attack that could come with waiting on a package!

    Thanks for the advice, ladies!!
