Getting to Know Eachother! – Proposals

Myself and two of my friends are all getting married. We are all in each other’s weddings, and we definitely spend a lot of nights sharing wedding plans and inspiration over wine. I feel like we (the wedding blog world of readers, writers, and vendors) are a close knit group of friends sharing our plans and inspiration minus the wine!  So it’s about time to get to know each other!

Each week I am going to post a new question as well as my response. Leave a comment with your story and answer (and a link to your blog or website if you have one) so we can all get to know the people behind this fabulous wedding world!

I’ll start with something easy this week (and always a fun one to tell!)

How did he propose???

My answer: December 3rd, 2010 I had a Thursday night off. I had a fashion show coming up in about a week so was in my bedroom looking over all the new clothing I had just received. We had just put up our Christmas tree (he was SO insistent that that tree was up and decorated!) and he kept calling me out to the living room. I came out there and he told me to sit in his lap. He was acting super weird and just kept staring at me. He pulled out the ring box and handed it to me. If he had a speech planned, he was too cute and nervous to say it, and frankly, it was so much for me that I don’t think I could even hear what was going on. In the flustered moment that was the proposal, I managed to say yes through the beaming smile, as I just couldn’t believe it was happening. I doubted it ever would, and it did! Then I got to open the box and I was pretty darn surprised by the ring. He picked it out all on his own, and it was exactly what I wanted! Looking into his eyes at the moment was the best thing ever.

YOUR TURN! So spill the beans, how did he propose??

Awww. That is so cute. My proposal wasn’t a surprise, so it wasn’t cute and sweet. My FH proposed at Minnehaha Falls. He had the ring box in his hand the whole time! He didn’t even hide it and he made me drive! Here is the full story: http://genevieveswedding.blogspot.com/2009/12/proposal.html

My husband & I had a tumultuous history LOL But we ran into each other, went on another first date a few days later, & he proposed just a few weeks later. It was on Valentine’s Day, at our favorite park overlooking all of Long Beach. It was a very sweet, honest, heartfelt proposal. We got married 3 weeks later, & we just celebrated our 2 year anniversary!

My fiance proposed at my family’s cottage in Michigan this past summer. The cottage has been in my family for over 100 years and he knew how important it is to me, and how it was a huge piece of my childhood. We were getting ready for a cocktail party that my parents were throwing and he called me back into the bedroom and I flipped on the light and he was on one knee. I immediately grabbed the doorway because I couldn’t believe it was happening!

What a great idea! My fiance proposed this past New Years Eve at my favorite restaurant where he surprised me with a dozen roses and best of all a scrapbook he had made with dozens of pages documenting all of our best memories from our four years together. On the last page was the words “Will you marry me?” The fact that I will always have this book to document exactly how he did it makes me most excited!

My husband and I are celebrating our ten year anniversary in a couple of months. He had an awesome plan for his proposal.
A friday night and he surprises me with a spontaneous camping trip to the coast. We dropped off at my parents house to drop off our dog and he ran into their house to ask a quick question. I later learned that he asked for my hand…right then!
We had a sweet night camping on the beach and the next morning went kayaking in Jenner. It was one of those amazing California coast days…cool, clear and brilliant blue skies. At one point, he asked if we could practice our eskimo rolls (when you roll the kayak under water and flip back up). So he rolls under and doesn’t come back up. I wait and wait and start to get panicky. Suddenly he gives me the sign for needing help and pats his boat. I paddle over and offer the bow of my boat. He pulls himself up and has a HUGE grin on his face. I begin to yell at him for taking so long and freaking me out but then I saw his hand. He was holding a ring tied to a string that was attached to his life jacket!!! (Under water he had been pulling it out from his life jacket pocket).
He went on to say some amazing things, ending in asking if I would spend my life with his. I couldn’t say yes fast enough though my pounding heart and tears.

It’s been ten years and he still keeps me on my toes…pulling crazy adventure out of no where. It still drives me crazy sometimes but i really couldn’t be happier!
Oh… and he still needs to work on that eskimo roll!!!

It was our 3 year anniversary and we were celebrating in the Bahamas. It was a big deal to take this trip and I had a gut feeling that something really special would come of it. We had talked about rings…a lot. So on the last night we were there, we headed over to Atlantis to do some gambling and champagne drinking. Atlantis at night is pretty amaazing. We walked out to the dock where all the boats were lit up with twinkly lights and the stars were out and the palm trees were swaying. He’s a nervous fella so it wasn’t exactly easy for him, but he asked me, I said yes and we didn’t stop hugging for the longest time. Now it’s been over 4 years and our wedding is in 3 short months!

So I pretty much knew that it was coming any day, at any time. That friday I called him to see what our plans were, not because i needed to know, but I was trying to see if maybe this was going to be the weekend. He told me we weren’t doing anything out of the norm so I figured maybe he was waiting till after a big work project I had was complete.

That saturday morning we woke up and he made coffee as usual. When he went to pour our cups he asked, as he always does, what would you like to be? He has a bunch of different cups with different sayings and which ever one choose, that is who you are that morning…well I shouted, “I want to be smiths…i always want to be smiths”…(those are the cups that have his last name on them.) Well when he came back with the coffee he stood over me and asked me to mary him. I was so caught off guard that i smiled sheepishly and said, “yea?!?!”…he handed me my cup that had the ring placed on top of a white linen inside, and he said, “now you are really a smith.”
It was sweet, perfectly us, and probobly the only way that he could surprise me : )

    I’m a little late, but here’s my story :)

We had been planning on going to NYC for awhile since I’d never been, it’s George’s fave city and we wanted some time out of Jacksonville. This past weekend worked perfectly because it was after the last big run we have signed up for.

We arrived early on Saturday morning and saw as much as we could! (Sunday we went to the Met, then out to lunch at a place near Central Park. We planned to walk around Central Park, but as we walking across the street, George took my hand and lead me to one of the horse-drawn carriages. I was thrilled..he said he wanted our first trip to Central Park be memorable and I reflected for a few moments about how lucky I was to have George in my life. George got the driver to take two pictures of us before we set off. The carriage ride was great…the weather was beautiful. Before it was over, George asked the driver, who was very nice, to take some more pictures of us and he said he’d be happy to.

So first we got a picture hugging, then the driver lead us over to the horse (JoJo) to take pictures with her. In the process of us trying to hold her, she slobbered all over my arm! I was amused…then George said my name. I turn around and he’s getting down on one knee with a small box in his hand. My first thought was honestly “I wonder what’s in that box?” Then I honestly don’t remember everything I said because I was in such shock, but it was something to the effect of “is this real? is this really happening?” George said yes and asked me to marry him! I said yes, we kissed and I was laughing, asking how he pulled the whole thing off. Luckily, the carriage driver was snapping away so we got lots of good pictures. The carriage driver wished us a happy life together..and as we walked about Central Park, I started asking how long this had been in the works.

It turns out he’d been researching for months! :) He was really nervous I’d find out so he’d actually said a few things in recent weeks to throw me off…I had no clue already so it convinced me even more that the engagement wouldn’t happen for another 6 months to a year.
