Venue Search Part 2 – Reception

March 23rd, 2010

Last week I showed off my lovely venue and talked about the big issues involved! (If you didn’t read that one you can check it out here)

After being fully upset that I would never get this venue situation figured out, I decided it was time (again) to scour the Internet for reception sites. Low and behold, I found another solution. But since all of this can’t just be simple for me, there are of course wrinkles in the plan.

The place is called Bargetto Winery and is about 5 minutes away from the Monarch Cove Inn. So as for the plan, here it goes:

Start the ceremony at 3:00pm at the Monarch Cove Inn. Right after, we would do pictures with the epic views while the rest of the wedding has a cocktail hour on the fantastic deck of the Monarch Cove Inn.

At 5:00pm the party would move to the Bargetto Winery for the reception. It is an outdoor space, with lots of greenery all around, it is a second stunning wedding spot. The downside is that the space ends at 9:00pm which is a bit early.

The second issue: the price! With two wedding spots comes two site fees. I need to work it all out but it seems slightly weird to pay double fees. Apparently the Monarch Cove Inn is that worth it to me.

I need some help! $4900 in site fees??? Am I being ridiculous?

How easy is it to get married on the beach?
You could have it all at the Bargetto Winery and still stay with friends and family at the Monarch Inn but get married on the beach and as the other venue is only a few minutes away, you could organise for a bus to take the guests back to the winery for the cocktail hour while you guys stay on the beach for photos? And even the Monarch Inn… No point spending two site fees especially when they are so close from each other. The best would be to get your guests at the winery, organise a cool bus to take them to the reception (how cool would that be if they are not aware this will happen!!! A big surprise to have to get on a bus) and then back again at the winery… No?
I am sure you can find a “public” spot on top of a cliff or on the beach and you just need to clear that with the council (or however you call it in the US)…
    NO?

The location I’m getting married at in So Cal has an end-time of 10:00pm. I was worried about this also, but the gal at our venue (Casa Romantica in San Clemente) told us that a lot of the weddings have after parties at a local bar within walking distance. This way, the young people can keep partying, while the older family members can feel like they aren’t skipping out as it gets late.

If you love your venue, go for it. We’re paying $4500 for our site, but its for the ceremony and reception. We love it so much, we’re willing to spend almost a third of our budget on it :) You can cut corners with other details…

I don’t think it’s too much if that’s for both of the venues. Of course it depends on your budget but $4900 isn’t too outrageous for a place you really love.

If it were me, I’d do it!
